Their purposeful mission can be relayed by its triple bottom line, which reads as follows:

1. to provide meaningful paid work opportunities to people with serious mental illness
2. to produce and sell environmentally sustainable, low-waste products
3. to generate a profit to sustain and enhance our employment program

Now that you know what they are all about, here is how it started back in 2019...

“From its inception, Fountain House and Body has been a community endeavor, with staff and members working side by side to develop soap recipes, research market trends, and find the right location for our shop. We took inspiration from the work-ordered units of Fountain House, as well as from the plastic-free and zero-waste movements to design a store that is both a rehabilitative space and a resource for durable, reusable, and beautiful cleaning products and home goods.”

Like many of us small businesses, they were not unaffected by the pandemic.

“When we temporarily closed due to the pandemic, we shifted part of our focus to making more wholesale hand sanitizers and soaps. We reopened at a retail store but continue to produce sanitizers, soaps, and refillable and customizable natural cleaning products.”
