DIY RECIPE OF THE MONTH

With spring here, the sides of my garden pathway are lined with various types of fresh mint. I am always looking for ways to infuse mint in everything this time of year, from tea to distilling for hydrosols to use in linen sprays! While the Lemon Balm and Spearmint are great for more fragrant uses, I save my Peppermint for this recipe.

If you are like me and love minty flavors, this recipe is sure to please. Save for a refreshing after dinner digestif, delicious baking creations like Creme de Menthe Chocolate bars, or a favorite of mine, the Polar Bear shot! This recipe is easy and doesn't require too many ingredients - but be careful as it is a little stronger than store-bought varieties, and much tastier!

THIS MONTHS RECIPE:CREME DE MENTHE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

      • 8 Ounces Organic Cane Alcohol
      • 8 Ounces Distilled Water
      • 2 Cups Peppermint
      • 1 1/2 Cups Sugar
      • 1 Cup Tap Water
      • 16 Ounce Mason Jar (to store)
      • Mesh Strainer

WHAT YOU'LL DO

      1. Wash and dry Mint leaves, tear into smaller pieces
        (approx. quartering the leaves)
      2. Add Distilled water to Organic Alcohol and shake
(this will dilute your 95% to approx. 47.5%, so its strong!)
      3. Add in Mint leaves to Alcohol, shake
      4. Let mixture sit for at least 12 hours
      5. Strain out leaves
      6. Add Sugar to Tap Water and bring to a boil until clear
      7. Let cool
      8. Add Sugar mixture to Mint mixture and stir
