DIY RECIPE OF THE MONTH

It's that time of year for patio-chillin', outdoor grillin', and camping adventures. When you are looking for something that isn't laden with chemicals that will keep the pesky insects away, try this DIY Bug Repellent.

I sometimes change up the essential oils I use, but following the lead of many other home-made bug spray recipes, find this blend to be the best in practice (and smells fantastic!). The oil you don't want to skip is the Citronella because of its power to keep the buzzing at bay.

As with all Essential Oils (EO), test on sensitive skin first to make sure you don't have any adverse reactions and avoid eyes.

(Added bonus, I sometimes steep rosemary and lavender in my water and witch hazel mix, store in the fridge for a few days before adding to the blend for added oomph!)

THIS MONTHS RECIPE:BUG REPELLENT

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

      • 20 drops Eucalyptus
      • 20 drops Citronella
      • 20 drops Lavender
      • 20 drops Geranium
      • 20 drops Rosemary
      • 2 tablespoons 190-Proof Organic Alcohol
      • ½ cup Witch Hazel
      • ½ cup Water
      • 1 teaspoon Jojoba or Olive Oil to combine
        optional
      • Glass Spray Bottle
        I used a 12-ounce bottle

WHAT YOU'LL DO

      1. Mix Water, Witch Hazel, and Alcohol together in Glass Spray Bottle
      2. Drop in your Essential Oils
      3. Add your teaspoon of oil which will help to combine
      4. Shake it up!

You may need to shake before use each time to ensure your well combined, but its worth it. Not only will this be a good alternative to a store-bought product that may contain unsavory chemicals, but it'll keep you smelling fresh you up on those camping excursions.

A great tip from one of our experienced herbalists- to avoid separation, add essential oils directly to a larger ratio of alcohol
