November 2021 DIY Recipe: Harvest Pear Room Spray

Oregon loves its pears and is one of the largest suppliers of pears in the US. It's no wonder that you can find Anjou, Bartlett, Comice, and Asian pears gracing the local farmers market tables. Right now, winter pears are being harvested.

Varieties like Anjou are popular choices around Southern Oregon and are a staple for winter with their delicious buttery taste. Perhaps due to their long shelf life, pears have been associated with Christmas and have even gained a spot in The Twelve Days of Christmas, along with the partridge of course. The scent of pear can also be used as an alternative to holiday favorites like cedar or pine.

This month's recipe is a simple spiced room spray with a base of our Craft Grade Pear spirits. Our Pear Spirits are made from Certified Organic pears, giving it a rich and fragrant profile. Star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla are first extracted in the pear alcohol base, warming the floral notes of the pear with spice to create a beautiful spray. A dash of organic essential oils can be added for a stronger scent if desired. Scent your home as you get ready for the holidays to begin.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• • • 8 oz. Spray Bottle (or double recipe and use a 16 oz.)
    • 3 oz. Craft Grade Pear Alcohol (You can use any of our alcohols, just adjust oils for scent strength)
    • 4 oz. Distilled Water
    • 1 Cinnamon Stick
    • 3 Star Anise
    • 1 Vanilla Bean (sliced in half, lengthwise)
    • 2-3 Cardamon Pods
    • 2-3 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil (optional)
    • 2-3 drops Rosemary Oil (optional)
      
      

WHAT YOU'LL DO

1. 1. 1. Add Cinnamon Stick, Star Anise, Vanilla Bean, and Cardamon Pods to Pear Alcohol (let sit in a cool, dark place for 24-48 hours)
      2. Once extracted to desired strength, strain alcohol into your spray bottle
      3. Add in Essential Oils (if extra scent strength is desired)
      4. Fill the bottle to the top with distilled water
      5. Cap, and give it a good shake
      6. Label and enjoy!
         
         
         With all sprays containing alcohol and essential oils, be mindful of spraying near flame or on the skin, and keep away from children. Some fabrics and finishes may be prone to damage.
