It's that time of year again, the great outdoors is calling. From hiking and camping, to lazy days on the river in a hammock, the Pacific Northwest shines in the summer months.
As you pack your sleeping bag, swimsuit, and sunscreen, you realize your time may be shared with some unwanted buzzing creatures. Before you head to the shop for mosquito spray, try our easy DIY Bug Repellent to avoid coating yourself, and your loved ones, in smelly chemicals. An upgrade to our last bug spray recipe, this 'wipe' version lasts longer, is easy to make, and easy to apply. With an array of yummy essential oils, you will repel unwanted creepy-crawlies and may attract some new campfire friends.
This formula is simple and easy to adjust to your needs. You can even skip the paper towels and go straight into a glass spray bottle, or create both versions to keep on hand.
The addition of Vanilla Extract prolongs the scent of the essential oils, and Fractionated Coconut Oil eases the effect on the skin and provides a little extra moisturizing. There are several other essential oils that may repel unwanted insects, but I have found Lemon Eucalyptus to be one of the best. Mix and match to find your favorite blend, making sure to keep the dilution ratio intact and test for skin irritation.
