Summertime is here and we are out and about connecting with friends and enjoying (or avoiding) the heat. Whether you are hopping from the river, a BBQ, or drinks with friends, you may find yourself needing a little refresher between activities. This simple DIY natural fragrance spray made with beautiful essential oils, hydrating hydrosol, and Organic Alcohol is the perfect spritzer to leave you smelling wonderful.

This recipe is light on the alcohol, and heavy on your distillate (distilled water or hydrosol). To me, nothing speaks of summertime more than orange blossoms and roses, so I chose to use a mix of both as my distilled water. Customize your ingredients to get the right summer-scent for you.

THIS MONTHS RECIPE: LIGHT SUMMERTIME FRAGRANCE SPRAY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

      • 8 ounce Distilled Herbal or Flower Water
      • 2 ounce Organic Alcohol, 190-proof

I used Organic Cane for this recipe

      • 25 drops Essential Oils of your choice, be sure to choose a mix of top, middle, and base notes*

I used the following mix of essential oils for my scent: 10 drops Neroli, 10 drops Geranium, 5 drops Amyris.

    • *The Mountain Rose Blog has a great reference explaining the differences between Top, Middle, and Base notes. Another easy way to do a blend is to choose 10 drops Floral, 10 drops Citrus, & 5 drops Woody. Test out what you like best and go with that!

WHAT YOU'LL DO

      1. Pour your Organic Alcohol into a 12-ounce Dark-colored Glass Spray Bottle
      2. Drop your Essential Oils into your Organic Alcohol and mix well until dissolved
      3. Fill Bottle with your Distilled Water
      4. Cap, and give it a good shake
      5. Label your Bottle so you remember what scents were used

I like to have a notebook where I list each fragrance name and the exact amounts of oils and distilled water I used. That way, when you fall in love with your new scent, you can recreate it perfectly each time!

Always test your essential oils on a small patch of skin to make sure you don't have any reactions. While this fragrance is lighter for misting in summer, it still contains oils and alcohol so make sure to use caution when spraying on certain fabrics or finishes. Enjoy!
